Second Annual Christmas Open House and 20 Year Anniversary

Second Annual Christmas Open House and 20 Year AnniversaryLCS welcomed clients, colleagues and industry partners to celebrate Christmas and our 20 year anniversary as general contractors of laboratory and technical facilities.

The Open House allowed LCS to both recognize existing clients - as well as welcome those interested in selecting LCS as their future laboratory and technical facility constructors and consultants – and allowed the guests to network among themselves and with key architects and engineers.

Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
November 14, 2011

Bay Area Houston Economic PartnershipBay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP) held their annual golf tournament on November 14, 2011. For years BAHEP has hosted a “Member Appreciation Golf Outing” as a way of thanking its members for their continued participation and support of the organization and the region. For several years, LCS has participated in the annual golf outing; this year Dane McKitrick and Jeff Kelly played golf while Rachel Ransom, Adam Miller and Chris Barrow grilled bratwurst at Hole 16.

Dane is on the Board of Directors for BAHEP and is very involved in the partnership to promote growth and development in the area. BAHEP receives funding from 13 municipalities and 2 counties and contributes significantly to the overall growth and development of the region.

LCS Attends TPC Group’s Open House
November 7, 2011

TPC GroupTPC Group (TPC) held an Open House celebrating the recently completed construction and official move-in into their new 19,500 square foot laboratory facility. LCS broke ground on the new Technical Center for TPC at its Houston operation in September 2010. The design-build project consists of a combined quality control (QC) and research and development (R&D) laboratory that will serve TPC’s growing needs and their commitment to provide quality products in the marketplace. 

The event was attended by LCS’ executives and team members including Dominick Ranalli, David Skinner, Marc Scott, Melissa Carroll, Chris Barrow, LCS’ Design Department and the entire LCS project team. We provided food for the event and presented TPC Group with a plaque to commemorate the construction project.

TPC’s CEO Michael McDonnell gave a speech and Dane and Marc presented the plaque to Peggy Macatangay, Director of Research and Development and Quality for TPC.

LCS Supports TPC Group Charity Golf Tournament
October 14, 2011

TCP GroupTPC Group recently hosted its Sixth Annual Charity Golf Tournament, which benefited the Cossaboom Family YMCA in Houston’s East End, the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center in Baytown, Texas, the Julie Rogers Gift of Life in Beaumont, Texas, and the Estelle and Allen Fetters Center in Groves, Texas.

The tournament raised $68,500, thanks in part to supporting sponsors of the event, including Premier Sponsors, Intertek and Crosby Tugs. Platinum Sponsors: Targa Resources; Lockton Marine & Energy; SGS North America; Austin Industrial; Jacobs Engineering Group; and LCS Constructors. Gold Sponsors: Targa Midstream Services; Bayer Technology; and Sulzer.

LCS’ David Skinner, Dane McKitrick and Jeff Kelly played golf while Rachel Ransom and Melissa Carroll volunteered at the event registration and also drove a beverage cart around the course during the tournament. We were proud to sponsor our client and participant in this tournament for such a worthwhile cause.

LCS Receives ABC’s Prestigious STEP Diamond Award
July 8 , 2011

LCS Receives ABC’s Prestigious STEP Diamond Award LCS was recently awarded the Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Diamond Award. The program, through the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC), is a training program with a goal to help general contractors measure progress from year to year in order to create safe and productive workforces. The program supports general contractors track progress, areas needing improvement, and offers special recognition for companies achieving outstanding safety records.

The STEP Diamond Award is a prestigious safety award presented to 26 companies throughout the nation for 2011.  ABC will issue 516 various safety awards this year, and only a handful of companies will be honored with the Diamond Safety Award.   LCS’ place in this select group of companies positions LCS within the top 5% of the safest contractors in the United States. 

Adam Miller and Chris Bass represented LCS at the award ceremony held at Brady’s Landing in Houston on Friday, July 8, 2011. The ceremony included the presentation of awards, guest speaker Judge Ed Emmit, and upcoming events announcements. Miller and Bass were honored and proud to participate in receiving this award.

LCS continues working diligently to operate safe construction sites and maintain excellent EMR ratings; for the past two years – 2009 and 2010 – LCS has worked without any recordable incidents. Congratulations to each LCS team member for their participation and support in achieving this distinguished award as well as maintaining safe work sites.

Client Appreciation Crawfish Boil and Open HouseWe hosted our First Annual Client Appreciation Crawfish Boil and Open House at LCS’ Houston office. Many of our clients and industry partners came out and enjoyed crawfish with all the fixings, shrimp, cookies and beverages. Everyone who joined us enjoyed great company, great food, a great mix of classic rock and country music. We sincerely hope our guests enjoyed themselves and we anticipate seeing everyone, and those who couldn’t make it this year, next year for our Second Annual Event in 2012!

David Skinner and Tiffany Amber Farran attended and exhibited at this event located at the Baxter Bioscience facility in Thousand Oaks.  Baxter is a global medical products and services company with expertise in medical devices, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

SGS North America, Inc.LCS was a Gold Level Sponsor at Special Olympics Texas Mulligans and Mudbugs Charity Golf Classic presented by SGS North America, Inc. As Gold Level Sponsors we were permitted to invite colleagues and clients to participate in the event which kicked off with a shotgun start just after lunch on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Wildcat Golf Club in the Houston area.

Special Olympics TexasLCS players and volunteers supporting the event included David Skinner, Marc Scott, Melissa Carroll, Melanie Tunget, Morgan Fountain, Rachel Ransom, Chris Barrow and Adam Miller.

Involvement in the tournament supports year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Participation and support in this event promotes dignity, equality, and opportunity for all people. As an expression of their appreciation, Special Olympics Texas golf athletes were on the course to drive and putt at selected holes for each team.

The tournament was immediately followed by a crawfish boil mixer which included an awards ceremony, speeches and fantastic raffle prizes. If you weren’t there this year, you should definitely be there for next year’s event – a day of fun, food and fundraising. It was wonderful to see so many companies come out to show their support for such a worthwhile cause.

SGS held a formal ribbon cutting for their new Design/Build Laboratory in Carson, California. Many SGS executives from all over the nation attended, as well as a special presentation and ribbon cutting with the Mayor of Carson.

CLMA Conference
March 12, 2011

Clinical Laboratory Management AssociationDavid Skinner and Tiffany Amber Farran exhibited and helped sponsor the Clinical Laboratory Management Association’s (CLMA) Annual Spring event. This CLMA event was held on Saturday from 7 A.M.—4:30 P.M. at the City of Hope campus, discussing LEAN principles in the laboratory and new advances in infectious disease testing. As of last year, The City of Hope is now a client of LCS, allowing us our first official OSHPD project for the California office.

Jim Koons and Tiffany Amber Farran attended and exhibited in Fisher Scientifics’ Annual Show in San Diego, California. LCS was invited by Fisher Scientific as a result of our ongoing work relationship with the laboratory furniture and equipment instrumentation company. The purpose of exhibiting at this event was to support our industry partner as well as to broaden LCS’ reach to life science companies in the San Diego community.

Chapman UniversityDavid Skinner and Tiffany Amber Farran attended Chapman University’s “Entrepreneur’s Making a Difference” evening, with speaker Vincent C. (Vinny) Smith, former CEO of Quest Software and current executive chairman. Vinny Smith was the CEO of Quest software between 1998 and 2008, during which time Quest became a leading enterprise systems management company. Vincent is also heavily involved in programs for alternative energy which he plans to help propel into the main stream market.

MD&M West Laboratory Technologies ExpositionLCS participated at the MD&M West Show in Anaheim, California on February 9, 2011, both as an exhibitor and as presenter of an “Innovation Brief” offered during the show. LCS’ abstract of Trends in Laboratory and Technical Facility Design and Construction was accepted by the MD&M West Show as an “Innovation Brief” topic; the thirty minute presentation was well attended and spoke to issues that many owners are facing as they consider expansion or relocation of their laboratories and technical facilities. LCS touched upon several trends; one focal point of the presentation addressed new concepts in facility layout which include flexible, open and collaborative lab space concepts.

Bay Area Houston Economic PartnershipDane McKitrick, Senior Project Manager in our Texas Division, was recently appointed to a three year term on BAHEP’s Board of Directors. BAHEP is a member-driven organization that provides leadership to stimulate regional economic development and employment. BAHEP members include aerospace, petrochemical, and health care companies, developers, bankers and real estate brokers, 13 cities, Galveston and Harris Counties, and the Port of Houston Authority. Members of BAHEP are the heart and soul of the organization and membership investment almost exclusively funds the partnership's mission. BAHEP's goal of attracting, retaining, and expanding industry within the region would not be possible without the financial support and valuable time given by its members.
