LabWize Best Practices
for Laboratory Design
December 9-10, 2009
Dennis Brewer, Vice President of LCS, and
Dane McKitrick, Senior Project Manager of LCS, were guest speakers
at the LabWize Best Practices for Laboratory Design 2009. The
conference took place on December 9-10, 2009 in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Brewer presented a speech on the 9th addressing ways to
avoid potential pitfalls in design-build delivery, while Mr.
McKitrick presented a speech on the 10th discussing ways to
prevent and solve mechanical systems issues in the lab environment.
LabWize, Inc.is a non-profit educational society dedicated
to the development, growth and strengthening of competitiveness
for owners, architects, engineers and manufacturers through
designing and maintaining “state-of-the-art” laboratory
and cleanroom facilities.

Chapman 32nd Annual Economic Update
Dec 8, 2009
David Skinner, Vice President of LCS, and Tiffany
Amber Farran, Manager of Business Development and Marketing,
and an MBA alumnus, attended the Chapman 32nd Annual Economic
Update held at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in
Costa Mesa, California. The update addressed topics such as
consumer spending, interest rates, employment, housing and
GDP. At this update, analysts predicted a slow recovery, especially
for construction, however, LCS is fortunate in that healthcare
is a prosperous industry with great future growth potential.
The update was presented by James L. Doti, Ph.D., President
and Donald Bren Distinguished Chair of Business and Economics
at Chapman University, and Esmael Adibi, Ph.D., Director and
A. Gary Anderson Chair of Economic Analysis at Chapman University.

The Distinguished Speaker
Series
December 7, 2009
James (Jim) Mazzo
Members of the LCS team attended The Distinguished
Speaker Series, a networking dinner and presentation at
Chapman University, in Orange, California on December 7,
2009. Discussing mergers and acquisitions, the presenter,
James (Jim) Mazzo, is Senior Vice President of Abbott,
a global, broad-based healthcare company, and President
of Abbott Medical Optics, Inc., a global leader in advanced
refractive technologies for eye care professionals and
patients. Mr. Mazzo, a trustee for Chapman University,
actively works with the federal, state and local elected
officials to address a variety of issues that impact
the ophthalmic and medical device industries.

Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP)
November 16, 2009
Dane McKitrick and Rachel Ransom cookin’ up
bratwurst on Hole 16
Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP) held their
annual golf tournament on November 16, 2009. For the
past
eight years BAHEP has hosted a “Member Appreciation
Golf Outing” as
a way of thanking its members for their continued participation
and support of the organization and the region. For the
past
four years, LCS has participated in the annual golf outing.
This year, Dennis Brewer, Vice President, Dane McKitrick,
Senior Project Manager, and Rachel Ransom, Service Department
Coordinator, attended the event. Dane and Rachel kept
golfers happy and full as they cooked up bratwurst on
the LCS BBQ at hole 16. Dennis played golf and won a new
golf bag for being “closest to the pin”.
It was a day of fun for all who participated.
