Laboratory Design Engineer - Houston
LCS Constructors, Inc. (LCS), an established, innovative,
market-leading design-build construction firm, is seeking a
Laboratory Design Engineer to support design-build projects
for a critical, sophisticated client base, including multiple
Fortune 500 companies, in our Texas/Gulf Coast Division. Our
projects include large scale turnkey design and construction
of laboratories and technical facilities for a variety of industries.
POSITION
SUMMARY
Help brainstorm/define/develop solutions for unique
client requirements; create detailed designs and documentation
to meet program objectives; identify and perform required engineering
analyses; help select and manage suppliers for specialized
equipment, design and construction; follow construction on
specific job sites; provide client support and client management.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the internal design team to prepare
conceptual designs for difficult and complex problems in
support of client laboratory programs.
- Translate
conceptual designs into complex systems construction documents
in support of division construction teams.
- Coordinate
with multiple external architectural and engineering disciplines
on design teams, and review work of all team members.
- Assist
with interpretation of applicable codes and regulations.
- Perform
client coordination, scope of work definition, engineering
and construction estimating, inter-discipline coordination,
and commercial proposal writing.
- Prepare and execute
major equipment purchase orders.
- Prepare technical
presentations and written communications for customers and
management.
- Perform squad check of vendor equipment
drawings and drawings from other disciplines.
- Occasional
travel, both domestic and international, to client, design
firm, and construction facilities to perform presentations,
on-site support, and/or issue resolution.
- Assist
the Design Department Manager and Senior Programmer as required.
- Provide
guidance and mentorship to design team members.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional registration required, including
in the state of Texas.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree
required.
- 7 – 10 years engineering experience,
with minimum 5 years with complex commercial design in technical
or industrial settings.
- Excellent command of the
English language, including superior oral communication,
presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Background
working with clients.
- Technical writing experience.
- Strong
work ethic, self starter, able to work independently with
a minimum of supervision or direction.
- Experience
with AutoCAD, P&ID drawings, and life cycle cost analysis
strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory and cleanroom
critical systems infrastructure, air systems and process
piping strongly preferred.
- US Citizenship strongly
preferred.
