LCS Goes Green for Charity
The LCS field crew at the Abraxis BioScience project in Costa
Mesa, Ca. got resourceful with materials deemed “scrap” and
destined for the job site dumpster. As the “trash and
scrap” generated from demolition efforts on a job started
piling up, the crew began viewing it in a “greener” light.
Generally, construction debris is thought to be worthless scrap,
to be hauled away and, never thought of again. But this “scrap” was
different and, and for the resourceful crew, it seemed like
it could serve a purpose greater than taking up space in landfill;
so, off they went to a recycling facility.
Realizing it would take extra time and more effort to make
the trip to the recycling facility, they wondered whether or
not they were doing the right thing or just wasting time. Was
there really any value to the “scrap” they were
hauling around? Well, much to the crew’s surprise and
delight, the “scrap” was worth something. And,
needless to say, they were excited to find that their efforts
turned a liability to the project into something of value.
Now, check in hand, they had to decide what to do with the
money. And, while all the obvious thoughts buzzed through their
head’s...to splurge on a fancy meal, throw a big party,
go on a shopping spree, etc., the crew came up with an even
better and far more rewarding plan for the money. They donated
it to charity.
The crew did get to splurge and go shopping, but this shopping
trip took them to the grocery store - and post shopping extravaganza,
they hand delivered 25 chickens and 10 turkeys, along with
dried and canned goods to a local church food bank. They also
purchased toys and donated them to the same local church for
underprivileged kids. And, the crew got a nominal reward in
the end too; with the few extra bucks left over after the food
and toy donations, they went to lunch.
This LCS team’s awareness and resourcefulness turned
into something far more gratifying than they imagined. Their
foresight and “green” initiative enabled them
to recycle materials that normally would have been scrapped
and thrown away. It was a rewarding experience, both environmentally
and charitably. LCS was proud of their crew for the green initiative
they took and for giving back to the community. With a little
thought, green can go farther you think.
