About Client: LA
BioMed, affiliated with the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine,
is one of the largest independent not-for-profit biomedical
research institutes in the country. The Torrance facility
is housed in a collection of converted World War H hospital
buildings, along with a few more contemporary facilities,
at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center campus. They focus on promoting
the role that technology transfer can play in getting innovations
to the public sooner; four startups have launched since 2001.

plans.
Project Description The Hanley-Hardison
building named after two former board chairwomen, will enable
LA BioMed to be more innovative. They will have a more
efficient space and have people closer together so they can
collaborate better, interact and synergize. The 14,372
square foot research laboratory will combine six departments
under one roof, and bring together 14 of LA BioMed’s
leading researchers in the fields of medicine, pathology,
psychiatry, neurology, surgery and obstetrics/gynecology.
