Ceres, Inc. - LCS laboratory construction case study

The laboratory completed at Ceres, Inc. in Malibu, California is yet another example of a successful project completed with the LCS trademark "Design/Build Advantage" strategy. The project consisted of 3,300 square feet of support staff office area and 7,200 square feet of research and development laboratory facility space.

This facility is used to perform organic testing and for the development of new products. Ceres, Inc. leased the space for the laboratory from Hughes Space Division. The laboratories were originally constructed in 1961. Special consideration of hazardous materials during the demolition and reconstruction of the new laboratory were a significant factor as well as the fact that the facility was being constructed within the existing Hughes Facility. This was a high security area that would require continual coordination with Hughes’ Security personnel.

The Ceres project was a prime example of the utilization of the single-source of responsibility that LCS’ customers have come to enjoy. During this project LCS encountered existing class 1 cleanrooms, asbestos flooring and many other specialty rooms during demolition and reconstruction of the building. Because of the vast experience accredited to LCS personnel, this was handled in-house, without costly time delays or added expenditures.
