Amvac
Chemical,
a
subsidiary of American Vanguard Corporation, produces a wide-range
of agricultural chemicals which include pesticides, fungicides,
growth regulators and soil fumigants. Initially Amvac selected
LCS to provide consulting services for both the site selection
and projected construction cost analysis of their new Research
and Development Facility. Amvac's largest concerns were having
optimal lab functionality while satisfying both budget and
environmental constraints.
LCS prepared a cost analysis with two scenarios. The first
was to construct a new building for this project. The second
scenario, the one Amvac selected, was to locate their new
6,000 square foot Research and Development Laboratory within
a company owned 100,000 square foot warehouse. LCS' knowledge
of lab systems as well as its experience in building similar
facilities led the Amvac team to select LCS as the design/builder
for the project.
LCS was able to realize economies during this project by utilizing
a mixture of existing casework with new fume hoods, plumbing
fixtures and epoxy tops. Both old and new metal casework were
electrostatically painted in place to create a consistent
and new look throughout the laboratory. By utilizing LCS'
design-build method of project delivery, the project team
was able to collectively produce creative solutions to their
facility requirements and deliver the new R&D Lab within
their budget parameters and ahead of schedule.
